ST986 - smartTOP for Porsche Boxster (986)
The smartTOP roof control unit allows opening or closing the convertible top while driving at slow speeds. It works similar to power-windows and opens or closes the roof automatically at the touch of a button. It is not necessary to stop the vehicle and pull the handbrake to operate the roof.

Simply replaces the original unit and is plugged into the corresponding socket in the relay board.
Plug and Play: very easy to install for anyone in just 1 minute. No tools required. No car mechanic help needed.

Operating the roof control while driving at slow speeds (max. 40km/h - 25mph):

  • Safe speed control mechanism automatically locks the roof against unintended operation at higher speeds.
  • A short push on the "open" button opens up the roof completely.
  • A short push on the "close" button closes the roof completely.
  • Pushing either button while the top is moving stops operation at once.

The factory default manual operation mode stays untouched.

Note: Even with a broken e-brake signalling switch (which will inhibit roof-operation permanently in the original condition) the smartTOP controller will work just fine. The switch does not need to be replaced.
